Daisy Numbers in Nature

Daisies explore how to measure the size and number of objects in nature. They create their own unit of measure for nature, too!

Badge Steps

1. Search for shadows

2. Sort natural objects

3. Make your own unit of measure

Purpose

When Daisies earn this badge, they'll know about shadows, measurement, sorting, and estimating.


STEP 1: CREATE A SHADOW

STEP 2: SORT NATURAL OBJECTS

Take a walk outside. Have your girl collect a few objects from nature. Leaves, Rocks, Sticks. Compare their shapes and sizes. Then sort them into like groups and make observations about how they compare and differ.

STEP 3: MAKE YOUR OWN UNIT OF MEASURE

Explain the difference between a standard unit of measure, like an inch or centimeter, and non-standard units of measure, like those Daisies will create during the activity.
